Valdese Parent Reminders for October 4th-October 8^th, 2010

·        Attractions Dining Guide coupon book sale will continue through September 24^th.

 

·        Interim reports were sent home on September 28^th.

 

·        Grandparents to Lunch schedule:
October 1^st - Pre-k and Kindergarten grandparents
October 8^th- 1^st and 3^rd grandparents to lunch
October 14^th- 5^th grade grandparents to lunch
October 15^th- 2^nd and 4^th grade grandparents to lunch

 

·        Book Fair will begin on October 4^th and end on October 8^th.

 

·        Family Reading Night will be held from 4pm-6pm on Tuesday, October 5^th. After you visit the book fair, please visit McDonald’s in Valdese for McTeacher Night. A portion of all sales from 5pm-8pm will be given to Valdese Elementary School PTO.

Grandparents to Lunch Day at Valdese Elementary School

October 1^st, October 8^th, October 14^th and October 15^th are Grandparents to Lunch Days at Valdese Elementary School. Grandparents are invited to come and eat with their grandchild or grandchildren during their scheduled lunch time.

Please note the memo below concerning the Presidential Address on Tuesday, September 14th.  Valdese Elementary School may air the speech for those who are interested.  It is an optional activity.  Please email, call, or write a note in your child’s organizer if you do not wish for them to participate if their classroom views the speech.

President Obama to Address Public School Students

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m., President Barack Obama will deliver his second annual Back-to-School speech. Last year, President Obama encouraged students to study hard, stay in school and take responsibility for their education. We wanted you to be aware of this event, which is being live streamed via the Web at whitehouse.gov, in case you wanted your district’s schools to have the option to participate. Again, participation is totally optional.

Currently, there are vacancies in Valdese’s Pre-K.

 Cost for the program is $19.00 a day. 

This includes breakfast, snack and lunch.

·    PTO meeting will be held on Monday, September 13^th in the media center @   6pm. Everyone is invited to attend!

·       VES Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, September 16^th at 9am @ the Old Rock School. Only classroom representatives from 4^th and 5^th grade will be competing to represent the school at the county level.

·       Girl Scouts will meet with students in K-5 on Friday, September 17^th  beginning at 1pm.

I hope you are having a great weekend!  Here are several reminders for the coming weeks.

- September 6th- No School- Labor Day

- September 13th- PTO board meeting- 6pm- Media Center- Any parent interested is invited to attend!!

- September 16th- VES Spelling Bee- 9am-Old Rock School

- September 17th- Girl Scouts will meet with 4th and 5th graders at 1pm, 2nd and 3rd graders at 1:15pm, and
Kindergarten and 1st graders at 1:30pm

·      Please see the attached calendars for school events for September
and October.

·    No school on Monday, September 6^th (Labor Day).

·    PTO Coupon book sale started on September 2^nd and will end on September 24^th. Each book is $20 and there are many valuable coupons inside each Attractions Dining Guide. For every (5) five books sold, students will receive a free book.
 

·     VES PTO board will meet on Monday, September 13^th at 6pm in the media center. Any parent interested is welcome to attend!
 

·     The VES Spelling Bee will be held on September 16^th at 9am at the Rock School.
 

·     Girl Scouts will meet with interested students in K-5 on September 17^th. 4^th and 5^th graders will meet at 1pm, 2^nd and 3^rd graders at 1:15pm, and Kindergarten and 1^st graders at 1:30pm.
 

·     Interim reports will be sent home on Tuesday, September 28^th.
 

·     Parking lot reminder: The parking lot on the Judges BBQ side of the school is for staff parking, bus loading and unloading, and Pre-k parent parking. All students in K-5 need to be dropped off and picked up in the car rider line in the front of the school.
 

·     Parking lot reminder: With school starting and many parents walking students to and from the school, please be aware that cars should be parked in a designated spot and not left unattended near the playground fence. A large number of our students are car riders and with the high volume of traffic in the front of the school every morning and afternoon, it works much faster if cars can move smoothly in and out of the parking lot. Thank you for helping to keep our parents and students in the parking lot safe!
 

·     Car rider line reminder: As the car rider line moves through the driveway and around the front of the school, cars should be in one line and ready to pick up students waiting on the benches. At no time should anyone pass in the car rider line. Sometimes students need to walk around to the other side of the vehicle to enter and this put them in a very dangerous situation if cars are passing while others are loading / unloading. During the morning and afternoon hours, orange traffic cones will be used to keep traffic in one line. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our students safe!
